Friends of the Nation


Friends of the Nation (FoN), established in 1993, is a registered socio-environmental advocacy, non-profit, non-governmental development-oriented Organization based in Adiembra in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region of Ghana. Incorporated in Ghana, March 1994 as a company limited by guarantee, it received certificate # 54457 from the Registrar General’s Department and registered with the Department of Social Welfare with registration # DSW/625.
FoN is committed to enhancing active citizenship, social accountability and promoting human rights in resource governance. In pursuance, FoN strives to ensure inclusiveness in all its actions guided by the technology of participation through rights-based and eco-based approaches to sustainable development.


Participation: FoN shall believe in a people-centred development and a rights-based advocacy that involves and enables the participation of beneficiaries of its actions.
Accountability: FoN shall strive to be accountable to its stakeholders and to society at large. FoN shall voluntarily make its work and records as open to the scrutiny of the general public especially, those its actions represents with proper regard for the confidentiality of private information.
Gender: FoN shall abhor discrimination in all forms particularly based on sex and it shall strive to guarantee and offer equal opportunity for both male and female in any endeavour
Equality: FoN shall ensure equality and dignity of every person. It shall seek to assure that each person is free to exercise his or her rights as a citizen as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It shall treat others and one another with the respect it desires for itself in the affirmation that unless everyone does that, society cannot flourish.
FoN shall strive to be self-reliant in order to maintain its independence and focus on the vision of the Organization.
FoN envisage a world where communities manage their environment in a sustainable and healthy manner and where equal opportunities exist for all people in the use of natural resources
